I’m asking for your support for election as a Group Assistant Secretary.

I joined PCS just after joining the Civil Service in May 2020 and became a rep in September 2022.
I am a personal case rep, fighting for members in workplace and seeing the immediate and real impact we have for our members on a daily basis. Protecting members from unfair treatment, achieving reasonable adjustments which allow them to remain in work and to have equal opportunities to deliver for the public we serve. Enabling our members to do the great work they are capable of is something of which I am immensely proud.
Working in a jobcentre, I’ve experienced first hand the devastating impact of short staffing on our members. The pressures this places on members has led to drastic amounts of workplace stress and has meant members have not been able to offer the support they wish to our claimants.
As a member of the DWP GEC, I’m proud of the way our Left Unity leadership has stood up for members on pay and fought for a fairer social security system. Despite the result of the recent strike ballot, we are already rebuilding to fight and win for members. With so much uncertainty and change coming, members need strong leadership in DWP. Only a Left Unity-led GEC will have the vision and experience to defend DWP members.

First elected to the GEC in 2024, this year I’ve represented members in Universal Credit, UCR, Work Services, Working Age and Retirement Services as a member of the Operational Trade Union side. For several months, I’ve been fortunate to serve as an Acting Group Secretary in UC, UCR, WSD and WA and been able to work alongside our advisory committees and directly with reps to ensure that we are able to robustly negotiate with management about issues in these areas, which are undergoing massive changes.
Again working with our Young Members Advisory Committee, I’ve worked to build on last year’s successful Group Young Members seminar by improving support for Regional Young Members Officers and ensured the YMAC could feed into our Group’s wider work for a fairer social security system.
I firmly believe PCS has a vital role in the wider Trade Union movement and society. From safeguarding human rights in the UK and internationally through actions such as the legal challenges against Government immigration policy, to combatting the climate crisis.
PCS has a proud history of being an active, campaigning union it’s crucial this continues, and if re-elected, I look forward to playing an important role in this.
If elected I will:
Continue the fight for pay which values the work we do
Challenge chronic understaffing
Defend our offices as they come under attack
Fight for a fairer social security system
I’m a proud socialist and Left Unity member and I’d encourage all members to support the full Left Unity slate in the DWP GEC elections.
