Sarah Morton

For PCS NEC

I am asking for your support in the PCS NEC elections. I’ve been a PCS Representative for 9 years. I am DWP Liverpool Branch Secretary, NW Regional Committee Vice Chair, and DWP Group Assistant Secretary. I am an experienced Rep and Branch Officer and I have organised and led on campaigns on pay, office closures and workplace safety.

I am currently leading on our branch campaign to stop the closure of Toxteth Jobcentre, and the industrial action campaign in my branch, with several offices taking strike action as part of the current NEC strategy for the PCS National Campaign.

I work with activists from sister Unions on a number of local campaigns fighting against poverty, and with local anti-Racist and anti-Fascist organisations fighting against the threat of the Far Right infiltrating our communities. I have also run a volunteer street team to assist rough sleepers and homeless people for over 10 years, and I incorporate all of this work into my PCS roles and when engaging with members wherever possible.

I am a socialist and Left Unity member and I’m proud of my record supporting members, and the work I’ve done as a Group officer as part of the leadership whose campaign helped ensure our members were safe during the Covid pandemic, whether working in the office or at home.

The current cost of living crisis is having a devastating effect on members, many are having to choose between food and fuel, and using foodbanks to feed themselves and their families. The Union movement has mobilised in response to this and our recent ballot results and support for the current NEC strategy show that PCS members are ready to fight for a fair wage and decent standard of living.

If elected to the NEC, I will prioritise supporting the national campaign on pay, pensions and job security in the Civil Service, and all Equalities issues, opposing all forms of discrimination in our workplaces.

We need a strong, determined leadership to ensure we win on pay, end pensions theft, and protect terms and conditions. Please vote for that leadership with the Democracy Alliance candidates below.
