Sammie Mulcahy for DWP GEC 2025

My name is Sammie Mulcahy, I work in the Ty Taf hub and have also been a rep previously, in Cardiff PIP and Swansea Pension Centre.  I am once again, honoured to be standing alongside my left unity colleagues for a position on the GEC.

I have been a union rep for seventeen years and a PCS member since my first day in 2004.  Coming from a strong, trade union family, with my dad being a shop steward in Fords for many years, it was inevitable that I would follow the same road. Having grown up hearing stories of pay and redundancy campaigns, I was aware of the union’s role from when I was very young.

Since being a rep, I’ve held the position of branch chair whilst in Swansea PC and I am currently secretary for our Ty Taf branch, vice chair of DWP Wales committee and GEC member/Wales GECLO.  Since holding these positions, I am proud to have represented many members through a variety of personal cases and this remains the most important part of my union role,

I have advocated for members, with them at the forefront of everything that I do.  This has involved dealing effectively with cases involving workplace bullying, the misapplication of hybrid working and attendance management.  My role as GECLO has seen me representing members from other branches/regions and supporting branches with organising and learning.

This past year I have engaged with many new representatives, tutoring new rep and personal case courses, bringing my experience of representing members and local negotiating to help new reps develop their skills.  I have mentored new reps through their own negotiations and representations of members, which is not only enjoyable but vital to the future of PCS.

If elected, I would want to continue to fight for pay, pensions and staffing and ensuring PCS is the strongest it can be through recruitment of new members and activists.

Please support me and LU candidates so we can continue to fight for what’s important to you.
