Ryan Bell for DWP GEC 2024

I have been an active member within PCS since my arrival in DWP back in 2021, a branch rep since the summer of 2022 as well as a committed socialist for as long as I can remember. During my early days I sought to work closely with and learn from my other local branch reps, many of whom I would rate as some of the best trade unionists in the country. Now I am beginning to make my own mark within PCS and firmly believe the best way to do that is through Left Unity, continuing to defend members interests on the ground and fighting for better pay and conditions on a national scale.

I was proud to play an active role in our campaign for pay, pensions, jobs and redundancy pay in which we negotiated a pay increase significantly higher than the 2% originally on the table from government for our members. This represented a win for our members and vindication for the strategy used. However, with inflation and cost of living issues that are still very much a concern for our members and the country as a whole I am under no illusions that we must reenergise and ramp up the pressure once again to deliver for the vital work we do in servicing the public.

The greatest satisfaction out of being a branch rep has come from working with members on a one to one basis and being able to make a positive impact on their working life, if elected to the GEC I will make sure to keep the words from the conversations I have on a daily basis with my members at the front and centre of everything I do whilst representing them.
