I’m Rowena from R&C East Midlands branch, a full time Mum to a wonderful 7 year old. My daughter is the reason I became active in the union; our young members need supporting because they are the future of our union.
I have held many roles in my branch over the years with my favourite being branch organiser for East Midlands and in 2023 I organised recruitment stalls and drop-in sessions in my workplace and helped my branch to be one of the biggest workplace recruiters in HMRC. I’m really proud that increase in PCS visibility in East Mids has resulted in BEC elections for the first time in years.
My organising skills will be a huge asset to the GEC and will help us build our union to become even more powerful.
I have been in the civil service for 8 years and a rep for 6 years.
In the past 12 months I have not only been successful in recruiting new members, I have also helped build PCS in Unity Square by collaborating with comrades from other government departments.
My key aim for 2024 is to build confidence in our membership to become active: as a socialist I want to lead by example and show members that the stereotypes of union reps, portrayed by the right wing media is fake and i will work tirelessly to demonstrate the benefits personally and to PCS of being fully active.
