Megan Hamblin for HMRC Assistant Group Secretary 2024

have been a member of the union since 2016, becoming an active rep in 2017. At a branch level I have held many roles, predominantly Equalities roles and business stream representation. When I was 25 I put myself forward to attend conference and was accepted as a trainee delegate, from there I joined the R&C Young Members Advisory Committee and later the National Young Members Network where I was elected to the role of Equalities officer.

When I aged out of being a Young Member, following being involved at a group level and escalating concerns to the GEC from a branch level, I put myself forward to join the GEC.

I was successful that first year and am now in my third year on the GEC, having supported John Smith with ISBC then BT&C since the beginning and the last two years having supported John Davidson with Transformation and CS&TD.

This year I am standing for AGS as over the years I believe I have gained invaluable experience, to where I have been able to cover the AGS position of those I support to ensure there is no drop in the representation of and communication to our members when they undertake extended leave or attend extended training regimes.

Unlike many others on the GEC or who are active in the trade union movement, my involvement only came about since joining HMRC. I was aware of trade unions and what they had done for the working class, but until PCS, I was not aware of how active a role a union can play in a workplace. I am standing this year as I want to continue to be a part of that, I want to continue representing and fighting for the members who make this union what it is.
