Matthew Jackson for DWP GEC 2026

I started in the Civil Service in October 2020, immediately joining PCS. Since becoming a rep in March 2024, I have fought for our members every day across my branch and within my own area of UC National Services.

Working in UC National Services, I see daily the pressures that chronic understaffing brings on our members coupled with the financial burdens brought by poverty pay. I’m proactive in reaching out to members locally to understand the challenges they face in the workplace, bringing these to local UC management, negotiating for fair treatment at work and fighting for members to be valued for the work that they do. An active member of the Group Universal Credit Advisory Committee, I’ve worked with Group Officers to escalate issues which I’ve been unable to resolve locally.

As an active personal case rep, I’ve fought and won for members by securing reasonable adjustments and pushed back against the ever increasing restrictions that our members face with acccessing hybrid working.

Being a young member, I know the way that chronic low pay limits our opportunities, the way we can be disrespected by management and I share young workers’ frustration at a political mainstream which doesn’t act on our concerns.

Serving as Northern Regional Young Members officer, I’ve recruited young members to PCS and provided a space for us to discuss our concerns and organise campaigns for better. During the recent ballot, I arranged an Young Members ballot event in my region to ensure that Young Members understood the campaign and had the confidence to play a role.

As Assistant Branch Organiser in one of the largest branches in DWP, I’ve played an active role in mapping my workplace to identify areas of strengths and weakness and contributed to plans to build collective strength to win on pay, staffing, hybrid working, terms and conditions and so much more.

If elected to the GEC, I’ll work to ensure that our GEC continues to fight for the same.

Members need strong leadership in DWP.

I’m a proud socialist and member of Left Unity. Please support all Left Unity candidates in this election.
