For DWP GEC

I have been a committed rep in DWP PCS for 14 years and a member of Left Unity for most of that time. As South West Regional Secretary I regularly ask members what their issues are so that we can raise them with Management – recent examples have been – Flexi restrictions in UCR, minimum numbers in WA – both resolved – and WC empowerment in JCs, and have achieved improvements for members – I provide regular feedback on progress to members. I strongly believe that everything we do should be for the benefit of our members and I regularly consult with my members and take their issues up locally,  regionally or nationally to ensure their concerns are dealt with..

I am proud to have been a member of the Left Unity led GEC for 6 years and during that time we have achieved a great deal. We have campaigned on issues important to members such as Pay, Pensions and Working Conditions, and to gain permanency for our FTA members. I am most proud of what we have achieved in the last year by getting over the 50% threshold and taking targeted action and a strong day of action in February – to be followed by further days in the next months. Next year will be just as hard and hopefully we will win for all our members, and we need a strong Union to continue to campaign and work for our members. I am seeking re-election to the GEC so that I can continue to be part of that work.
