Lorna Merry for Vice President 2024

Lorna has been active in PCS since she went to her first conference thirty years ago.  She has been elected to a variety of roles at Branch, Regional, Group and National level and is currently in her 15th year on the NEC and her 10th year as HMRC Group President.

Lorna has been directly involved in a number of key campaigns, including Tax Justice and taking the lead on the strategy for the successful HMRC reballot last year. Our pay re-ballot saw us increase turnout by more than 10% taking us well past the 50% threshold in HMRC and VOA, allowing our members to take an active part in the National Campaign. She is also an experienced negotiator, being part of the negotiating team from the Job Security Agreement back in 2008, PaCR, the TSP Trainee agreement and the ongoing and successful IPC dispute. She has worked closely with Claire Keenan to get the Group Organiser event and the first Group Level Young Members event off the Ground to build participation and get new people coming forward.

We have a new team at the top of PCS, and as Fran Heathcote starts her term as our first female General Secretary she will be at the helm for members for the next five years. That in itself will be a big change for PCS, which will need experienced leaders and a supportive NEC around her, but we also know that we are likely to be facing a change of government before the end of this year as well.

PCS needs an experienced and capable leadership and we will commit to providing that.
