Linda Edwards for DWP Treasurer 2024

I joined DWP in February 2006 and joined PCS the same week.  Being part of a union has always been important to me coming from a strong  trade unionist family background, my father was a steelworker in Port Talbot and I grew up seeing him stand up for the things he believed in and taking his place on picket lines and similarly, my mum worked in the garment industry when women were fighting for equal pay, so likewise wherever I have been employed over the years it has been of key importance to me to be part of the union.

As a proud socialist  and TU activist there has never been any option for me during my employment with DWP  other than to be a member of PCS /Left Unity, our members deserve the strong leadership that LU provides and if elected I will play my part in helping to build on delivering  the results that this leadership have  already proved  are achievable.  I will continue to work to help deliver on our campaigns on pay, pensions and staffing and fight for equality for all.

I have held a number of union positions over the years starting initially as a ULR  then Branch Learning officer to currently being Branch Secretary and Organiser and also regional organiser as well as being a personal case rep helping to fight the many inequalities our members face on a daily basis.

Prior to working in DWP my qualifications and experience were very much cantered around Business and Finance and so I am confident that if elected I would do the position justice and so humbly ask for your support in these elections.

Whatever the result I will give 100% support to LU and the campaigns that improve the working lives of all our members.
