Karen Alderson for NEC 2025

I joined the passport office, part of the Home Office in 2006, I have held various positions since around 2009 and joined Left Unity in around 2010.

I am a current National Executive Committee member, and I am asking for members to support my re-election to the NEC.  I am also Organiser of the Home Office Group and recently stepped up to the Vice President role.  I am Northern Regional Chair and HMPO Northern Branch Secretary. I have played an active role in both PCS and Left Unity for many years.

I am extremely proud to have led on the organising work in the PCS Home Office Group; what this has achieved so far for our members, and the contribution that work has had to the wider Union and National campaign. I supported local reps in coordinating 5-weeks of strike action in the Passport office in 2023, where hundreds of members took part in targeted strike action over the Easter period and our Border Force members who also took part in targeted action that year.

I have a keen interest in Organising and serve nationally on the organising committee and as the Group Organiser in the Home Office, we have seen year on year membership increases and I have visited many branches up and down the country to support in membership and rep recruitment, building stronger branches within our Group.

I have also sat on the National campaigns committee, finance committee and Editorial board and I am Chair the Northern Regional committee, our large and diverse region has been at the forefront of many national campaigns including supporting the Benton Park View sacked reps.  I am also a proud member of my local trades council.

It is essential that we elect the right people to represent us at National Executive level, this last year has seen processes frustrated by the majority factions and ultimately, our members lose out. It is essential that Democracy Alliance regain the majority position to achieve the best outcomes for our members.

With your support I will continue to be a voice for all members at all levels of our movement, I will continue working to build unity and strength in the union and in the wider movement and I will continue to be a strong, supportive and visible representative of our union.
