I joined CPSA in 1995 and have been a member of the union ever since. I became a local rep in 1997 and Branch Secretary in 1998. I am currently President of the Private Sector Member’s Association having served as Vice-President for four years. I am currently a member of the NEC and am seeking re-election for a fourth year.
I currently work for the Health Assessment and Advisory Service as an employee of Maximus UK. This is the fourth company to hold the contract to carry out medical examinations on behalf of the DWP since we were privatised in 1998 by Blair’s “New” Labour government, despite assurances to CPSA that the contract would most likely not be privatised if Labour won the 1997 election.
I have been a member of Left Unity almost since I became active in the union, and I stand by our record as the group within PCS who deliver for our members, as well as standing up for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.
PCS is going through a period of change, with a new General Secretary and we will soon have a new national President and NEC. It is vitally important for our union that we maintain the strong, democratic, campaigning leadership that we have had for the past 20+ years, and that leadership can only be provided by your Left Unity Candidates.
