Irene Pealing for DWP GEC 2025

I have been a Trade Union Representative for many years, I have worked in the MOD, Dept of Health, CSA and for the last 23 years DWP.  I have taken an active part in the union throughout my working life. I always keep the ideololgy of being in a union member at the forefront of everything I do that by uniting as a group we can negotiate with employers from a position of strength. I was raised by parents who had a strong belief in workers rights and the ethos that everyone has a right to be treated fairly. I am a Socialist and a member of Left Unity.

I am currently the H&S Officer for my branch, I’m passionate about  H&S and will doggedly address any issues that may put staff/customers in any danger whilst they are in our premises or indeed working from home. I have experience in liaising, holding meetings and negotiating with senior leaders. I ensure that members are informed of progress as I address these sometimes crucial issues. I mentor any new H&S representatives in my branch by providing support by way of variety of communication methods as well as face to face meetings.

I am also a member of the CFCD Advisory committee, and the NW District Health & Safety Committee which I contribute to by attending meetings, raising issues, chasing them up if required. I then ensure I feed back to my members

I regularly deal with ER issues including many personal cases. I undertake regular correspondence with line managers and members of the SLT and I will always strive to achieve positive changes for our members.

I am also the Deputy Chair of my union branch. I make it my priority to endeavour to make an active contribution to my branch and to raise the profile of PCS at every opportunity.
