I currently work in Stratford in COD CTU, I have been a GEC member for several years and I am an active member of my local branch committee.
I have been an active PCS rep since 2019, I was pleased to be given the opportunity to step up as a rep in the then newly formed Inland Pre Clearance Hub (IPC) in Hayes. I believe I was instrumental in creating a voice for PCS members in the IPC’s, building strong relationships both with members and employee relations, bringing to the front issues of concern raised over the years. I have led and recruited PCS reps and advocates in my workplace which has also elevated members voices.
We worked together as a PCS team in the IPC’s to bring about many changes with the way we work, introducing flexible working within shifts, assisting members with part time contracts and collaborating across the site to make the IPC’s a better and fairer place to work. This groundwork put in place over the last few years was incredibly important when during the last year we were forced to ballot for industrial action in IPCs over the failure of HMRC to pay a shift disturbance allowance to those working in the section. We successfully got over the anti trade union ballot threshold and were then able to leverage pressure onto HMRC to not only recognise that staff in IPCs are shift workers but we also got them to agree to pay thousands of pounds in backpay going back to the inception of the work area in 2019. A huge victory for our members.
In my time on the GEC I have worked across a number of areas as part of the negotiating teams for ISBC, Estates, Inland Border Facilities and the H&S team, gaining a wide range of experience in negotiating, campaigning and organising.
I am passionate about H&S and have completed the relevant training on H&S law, this knowledge has given me the confidence to carry out my role as a H&s rep, and have a positive influence on working practices and policies.
I am an experienced caseworker and have dealt with many personal cases including issues around stress, safety at work, flexible working and the many other issues our members face.
I am also passionate about equality and have previously sat on both the Women’s and Black Members advisory committees prior to being elected to the GEC. Equality and fairness are at the forefront of all I do.
I am a socialist and a member of Left Unity
