Huw Gingell for HMRC Treasurer 2024

Often overlooked but certainly not to be undervalued is the position of group treasurer in the group organisational structure. A group treasurer effectively looks after the income and expenditure of the group executive keeping records up to date ensuring any expenditure falls within PCS rules and keeping the GEC informed at each meeting of the current financial situation within the group.

I feel that I am the right person to undertake such a role as I already have a wealth of experience to apply for the position. These include –

Previous Branch Treasurer roles – During my 33 trade union years of activity, I’ve had to undertake the role of branch treasurer on a number of occasions over several government departments that I have worked often inheriting a mess where branch accounts are missing,  book keeping requirements if present, leaves a lot to be desired often having to reconstruct accounts from scratch, liaising with the finance team to secure missing bank statements with a view to getting them up and running and on an even keel, paying creditors and members that are owed money and securing funding for fully functioning branch. I know the role inside out as well as being a tax auditor in my day job.

Special Members Auditor – Undertaking the role as senior officer for over 10 years auditing branch and group accounts as and when required by the finance committee helping branches with any financial queries offering mentoring, technical support on all aspects of the role. Currently the lead trainer presenting on-line training events on branch treasurer induction and end of year reconciliations.

A vote for me would mean that the role would be in safe hands and the members subs that fund the group would be correctly and accurately within current PCS guidelines.
