For PCS NEC
I’ve been an active rep for 16 years and have worked for His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) since 1991 when I also became a member of our union.
As a member of Democracy Alliance, this has been my first year on the NEC; a position I’m proud to hold. I have also held several HMPPS/MOJ Group and National Branch positions since becoming active.
Currently, as Chair of the National Trade Union Side in HMPPS, I have gained extensive experience of leading engagement and negotiations on all matters affecting our members, with the employer and ministers, particularly on key issues like Pay, Jobs and Terms and Conditions.
My role here also provides a link between HMPPS as an agency of MOJ for those of our members transferring under COSOP to core MOJ, under functional leadership.
I have been involved in international work as an NEC member, strengthening our links with Amnesty International, aligning with areas of mutual benefit on domestic campaigns.
There are many priority areas the national union must get involved in like equality, climate change, long covid and opposing all forms of privatisation but I support our current campaign of action to defend Pay, Pensions and Job Security which is rightly our unions No.1 priority today.
We cannot ignore this governments attempts to rush through parliament new anti-strike laws that would prevent us from speaking up. Our members who are taking industrial action today to defend pay, pension and conditions have endured the longest wage squeeze for decades and this new law means every working person is under attack from these new infringements. We must fight the anti-strike laws to defend our right to strike.
I also support our national organising strategy. We have evidenced in this year’s strike ballot that with effective organising we can push through the governments restrictive TU laws. This has been a fantastic achievement for our union this year and we must do even more to support departments under the threshold.
I firmly believe that the NEC needs experienced, diverse, and committed members representative of our collective membership and if re-elected I will continue to build on my experience of the last year. Together the alliance has the understanding and ability to build an even stronger union. please also give your support for the following Democracy Alliance candidates:
