I have worked at Ofgem from a temp AO to my current position for 7 years, a PCS member, then rep over half of those. Although fewer years than some of my fellow comrades I remain a committed socialist and I truly want everything to be better for everyone. We only know too well the effects of this government’s inaction on austerity. I am standing for the NEC this year to be part of a committee that makes a difference to our members and wider society – from ensuring we have fair pay for pay work, to supporting our refugee and asylum seekers siblings, and combatting the far right.
In my own workplace I am proud to have been part of a committee that won significant U turns from our employer, namely pausing, then abandoning the decision to double our mandatory office attendance days. By creating surveys and completing extensive data analysis I provided key statistics that accurately reflected the considerably negative effects of this policy change on our already underpaid and overworked workforce. I want every branch to be empowered to challenge any erosion of any working conditions.

I am also currently so privileged to sit on the Scottish Trade Union Congress’ Black Workers Committee as the Chair, and hope to make an impact to reduce racial inequalities and broaden what a trade unionist can look like – sari-cladded women in the 70s inspired wonderful solidarity I hope we keep with us lifelong.
I’ve stood proudly week on week with against fascism in Erskine where asylum seekers and refugees were housed and I have spoken at counterprotests against the far right in Paisley and Glasgow, I’ve also been happy to organise two Branch volunteering days at Refuweegee, a charity helping those forcibly displaced to Glasgow, and my moral compass is such that I would always stand against oppression, in or out of work.
I want the best for all of our members, including to halt our paying into a levy no branches have an active strike mandate for. Importantly I hope to continue to keep pushing, organising and building our power if elected to the NEC
