Carol Revell (Smith on GAL)

I am seeking re-election to the DWP GEC. As a socialist I am proud to be a member of Left Unity.
I became a civil servant in 1999 and became a PCS rep a couple of weeks later. I have held multiple roles within PCS at local, Wales level, National CSA and Departmental.
I have been a GEC member for 20 years and the Group Safety Officer since 2013.
I am an active rep supporting members individually, collectively and negotiating on behalf of members. I have a reputation for listening and working with members.
AS Group Safety officer I have strived to get safer working conditions for everyone. I work with safety teams at all levels, to ensure that the way the department works is not detrimental to our members health, safety and well-being. I try to ensure that safety is embedded in all departmental policies and procedures and I ensure that I keep up to date with guidance around health and safety.
I am mentoring a number of new reps in my branch but I also support other branches when asked to, especially when it comes to Risk assessments.

I’ve worked to ensure that my branch DWP Ty Taf is an organised and effective branch since it was set up during the pandemic with the closure of six offices. We have had to deal with serious safety issues from when it was being built and each year since. We have kept members informed and engaged all the way through.
If re-elected I promise to work to keep our offices safe but also to deal with issues that affect people in the work place.
I am opposed to privatisation and the problems that arise from it including the mess that the Government have made with civil service pensions. In DWP we have experience of a number of privatised parts of the department having to be brought back in house as civil servants are the best people to do the work.
I am against Capita dealing with our pay roll. I believe we need to continue the campaign on pay because I believe we are not being treated fairly by a department that says it values staff and then refuses to go to the treasury with a business case to ensure that its staff don’t end up on the national living wage in April.
I ask that you support me and the other Left Unity candidates as members need strong leadership in DWP.
