I am standing for re-election to the NEC, as a left unity member and a socialist. Last year, our DA NEC continued to marry principle with action, outwitting the government with unique industrial strategy and leading our members with collective guile. This year, without a DA led majority, we have seen an incoherence of thought and action from the opposition. It is vital for our union and for our members that we return to a working majority on the NEC.
I identify as LGBT+ so marginalisation and issues of discrimination are integral to my experience and my approach. Our strength as a member-led union is our ability to reflect the experiences of members and fight effectively to challenge discrimination and injustice. The discriminations faced by women, part-time workers, disabled workers, LGBT+ and black workers shows us that there is much to challenge. These injustices will continue to be a priority for our Democracy Alliance NEC.
The year to come is vital for our members and our campaigning effectiveness. We need to:
- Reignite the national campaign for pay, pensions and to improve our members standard of living
- Pause the union subs levy until we need it
- Work together to challenge attacks on our members hard fought rights
- Continue to develop our organising structures to build a stronger union
- Oppose office closures and oppose privatisation of services
- Develop policy to progress our members’ rights through equality analysis and legal means
- Support our members’ collective voice in the face of marginalisation and discrimination
I am asking for your support to continue that fight on the NEC and we shall be tireless in our pursuit of the best outcomes for our members across PCS.
Please support the Democracy Alliance candidates for a strong leadership to
work for you.
