Liz McGachey DWP

I am seeking election as the DWP Group Journal Editor.

I have been a rep and a member of Left Unity for 16 years. I became the first female Chair of the DWP Glasgow Branch in 2015, and have held this position since, overseeing the merger of our Branch with the DWP Greater Glasgow Branch. I am a Vice Chair of the PCS Scotland Committee.

I was elected onto the Group Executive Committee in 2019, and was co-opted to the role of Group Journal Editor in 2020. The PCS Voice magazine is an important means of communication for our members, that they are encouraged to contribute towards.

I have been involved in a variety of Equality Committees throughout my time as a rep. I believe our members are the lifeblood of our union, and that we should be representative of all of our members.

I have been part of various campaigns around pay, office closures, and staffing. I organised and won a campaign in my own workplace to put a stop to detrimental changes to working patterns.

In the past year when the Covid-19 crisis hit, our Left Unity led GEC acted quickly to get measures put in place to keep our members safe. I am proud of the work done by the negotiating officers. If elected I will continue to fight alongside the GEC for better terms and conditions for our members.
