Lindsay Miles DWP

I have been an activist in PCS and it’s predecessor CPSA since 1988. Over the many years I have held the positions of Assistant Branch Secretary, Branch Secretary, Regional Organiser, Health and Safety Rep, Local Office Rep and Section\Group Scrutineer (for over 30 years). I am currently once again Branch Secretary. I am a part time and term time worker and am fully committed to ensuring equality for all. I will continue to fully represent all members and fight for equality and fair treatment if successful in gaining a place in the GEC both at local and national levels.

This year, PCS members in DWP have faced huge challenges, not just in terms of pay, terms and conditions but with ongoing battles to keep you safe at work, and to allow those that can work from home to do so. You need and deserve strong leadership. Left Unity provides that leadership.

Members need a union that stands up for them. One that focuses its efforts on building strength to win gains at work, one that is capable of fighting for improvements and is not afraid to tackle difficult issues with robust negotiations, backed up by membership support, when needed.
I firmly believe that we can never lose sight of the fact that members and their issues are why we are TU Representatives and why we need a strong Leadership so we can deliver for them. That’s why I believe that the current LU Leadership and those who have been nominated by LU are key to our way forward, as our record shows that we can be trusted to deliver for members.

I am therefore seeking to work on the GEC along with my LU colleagues to further the fight for better pay and conditions, to ensure staff safety and to organise members in our struggle.

Recruiting new members to the union will be key to ensuring we build our strength and our voice for members at work. I will work to ensure that every new entrant into the Department is not only asked to join PCS but is shown why it’s so important they are part of the fight for their interests at work.

Only where we have good organisation and good reps speaking up for members can we continue to win concessions. I as part of Left Unity am determined to ensure we have both in DWP.

I pledge to work closely with, and under the leadership of, Group President, Martin Cavanagh, to support all PCS members in the DWP.

I am proud to be part of a list of candidates that once again demonstrates Left Unity’s commitment to equality and diversity, ensuring a wide range of representation. I ask for your support for myself and all other Left Unity candidates.
