Karen Alderson

For PCS NEC

I have been a PCS member and worked for the Passport Office, part of the Home Office Group, for over 15 years. I am currently both a Branch Secretary and Assistant Group Secretary, having held various roles at branch, group and regional level, since 2009.

There has never been a more important time to become active in the trade union movement. I am extremely proud to have been part of the organising work in the PCS Home Office group, what this has achieved so far, and the contribution that work has had to the wider Union – winning a massive Yes vote for industrial action.

I have played a significant role, in not only the positive ballot result, but contacting thousands of members in the run-up to that ballot period. I have contributed to the vast increase in membership and local representatives by visiting branches across the country in order to strengthen our branches from the bottom up thus helping to make the Home Office group one of the most rapid growing in PCS.

I am an active; visible advocate for our membership, speaking regularly at members meetings and local rallies in support of PCS aims and against this government’s anti-worker agenda.

I am in no doubt that we will see further attacks from this government, the cost-of-living crisis will deepen, I fully appreciate the struggle our members face, but along with the other Democratic alliance candidates; I am committed to ensuring that PCS; from the bottom up, are in the best position to fight back.
