For PCS NEC

I am asking for your support for re-election to the national executive committee.
It’s been an honour to be part of a Democracy Alliance led NEC that has delivered a historic ballot result for industrial action in support of our national campaign and is now building on that mandate with successful targeted and all member action.
Under our leadership our union is growing in both confidence and membership, with thousands joining what they see is a strong and vibrant union taking effective action to advance their interests.
And that confidence is being echoed in other unions, as the PCS call for action is being answered across the public sector with co-ordinated action taking place across different employers.
Our strategy, of hard-hitting targeted action backed by the levy and supported by all-member action, was overwhelmingly backed by members and is having an impact.
Left Unity and Democracy Alliance comrades will continue to refine that strategy, as more areas come on board with a mandate, without dashing for the all-out strike option beloved by others.
We recognise that our members are really struggling financially, as the impact of the cost of living crisis and roaring inflation take their toll. We will therefore be sensitive to their hardship and ability to participate in considering further steps in our dispute.
But our union is not just engaged in the national dispute. Across the groups and bargaining areas we have been supporting members through the pandemic and increasing threats to their job security.
PCS has been pursuing the interests of our members through legal action and parliamentary campaigning, as well as our network of workplace reps who provide support and guidance.
If re-elected as your leadership, Left Unity and the Democracy Alliance will put the interests of our members first and continue to grow our union so that we can defend the vital services you provide.
We are engaged in a fight for the future of the public sector. It’s time for us all to get involved.
I am currently the President of the Defence Sector Group and joint chair of the MOD trade union side, having been a trade union activist for PCS and its predecessors all my working life.
I am also a local councillor, chair of a secondary school governing body, and active member of my Trades Council.
I am a lifelong socialist and member of PCS Left Unity.
Please support me and my Democracy Alliance candidates for an effective, fighting leadership of PCS.
